It isn’t something I want to get used to.
Not quite blind, it is like I am seeing my world in black and white. Shadows where their faces normally give me clues to what is happening. A smile here, eyes narrowed there, I could always see if someone was fooling me. Now, I have to use my hearing instead.
Sometimes I hear that tone change.
I want to learn, going blind shouldn’t make a difference.
Unravelling my white cane, I swipe right, then left, just like the doctor showed me. I listen to the sounds of other people, talking. A meeting with a friend here, a bombardment of feet there.
I wonder, if getting a guide dog would make my life easier.
I think that a guide dog would improve anyone’s life.

In the original story she had a guide dog from the beginning, but I found it difficult to write from that perspective. Instead she is going blind, and I’m learning as I write the story.
