Surly

With a face like a surly elephant, Tom sat in the doctor’s waiting room. Why was it you booked an appointment for one time, but still sitting there an hour later. He was sure there were other people, who arrived before him, actually got seen a lot sooner.

Not that he wanted to see the doctor – it was his wife who said he needed to get his bad back checked out. He would give it another five minutes, then he would leave. What she didn’t know, couldn’t hurt him.

‘Robert Smith.’

With a sigh, he heaved himself out of his seat. The doctor, younger than him by thirty years, checked his back, and legs. Sciatica, the best way was to get a therapist. An appointment could be booked.

Although there was a waiting list.

There were exercises he could do before then, which might help.

He walked out of the room, relieved it wasn’t worse.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
