‘Flummox, that’s a brilliant word, and what does it mean?’

‘Not sure miss, but that’s how I feel about my homework. I mean you asked us to write a story, to practice for our GCSE’s and I can’t think of anything to write. I mean I get it is worth forty marks, but I can’t write. You saw my last attempt.’

‘I thought it was brilliant, you wrote about your day at the beach. I loved reading about your adventure in the cave, and meeting the aliens.’

Shona smiled, it was a great day, playing Yu-Gi-Ho with her friends. Perhaps her teacher wasn’t aware it was a game, rather than a story from her head. She thought about her exam. She wasn’t sure how she was going to pass. If she did, then she would be able to go to her college course in motor mechanics. She always loved putting things together, but words were difficult.

‘Write about something you love, then it will show on your page. Just link the story to something you are interested in.’

‘Thanks Miss.’

Exams, they were horrible, but her teacher gave her inspiration to write.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
