Star Light

Every morning, just as the stars were reflecting against the blue sky, Brian brought his lamp to the same spot. It was here, he could hold his arm up to the sky, and shine with the stars.

They brought hope to an uncertain world.

As the last star dwindled, his own lamp was put out. A beautiful sky, sometimes filled with tears, and he could start the day with a fresh smile. His walk to work always started from here. He just wanted to remember her, not forget the reason he smiled.

‘Well, can’t stay here forever, got lots of planting to do. Thanks for the sunshine, it will be a long day otherwise.’

Treading over the melting snow, it was the perfect time to plant. In a few months his field would be alive with wheat again. Perfect stalks of gold, worth more than any money they would bring.

His farm, his wife, the reason he couldn’t retire.

It was here, he was close to her, could hear her voice on the breeze. Singing to his plants, helping them thrive. Each day, toiling on his fields, he was always grateful. Life, nature, there was so much happiness around him.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
