Imperial

I’ve never known any other money that imperial.

My parents used to talk about shillings, even when the new money was introduced. I’m old enough to remember the half pence. There was also the thrupenny, which was worth two and half pence. We were taught how to handle money from a very young age. Going to the local newsagents to get my dad’s newspaper, and using the change to buy myself a comic, or some sweets.

Now we use cards way too much; it is way too easy to spend money, without thinking about the consequences of not having enough to buy food. Most children struggle with money, because we don’t use cash enough.

It is the same with telling the time, we were taught to be independent.

We were also taught respect, which seems to be lacking these days.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. Efforts are currently being made to get rid of currency and coins in favor of CBDC (central bank digital currency). I’m working to make sure they fail, not just for nostalgi reasons…
