A muffled sob, and the vision of her dad on the stairs felt genuine. Was it an illusion? It wasn’t clear, but he settled on the middle step, waiting for her. Fear descended on his shoulders, hushed at first.
Pinching her leg, the pain didn’t wake her up.
‘I am there for your half pint,’ he said. ‘Allow yourself to cry.’
She leant her head, and terrified tears dropped on to his red shirt. A dream? Real? Either way, it was something she needed. Not old enough to vote when he died. Now, a young mum, afraid she wasn’t capable. What would he have thought of her little girl?
‘You are doing so well, sweetheart, but go to the doctors. Speak to your partner. Be honest about the sadness.’
‘What if they take her away?’
‘Postnatal emotional distress is common, and you love your little girl. It is about acknowledging when you require support.
Brick by brick, her stresses subsided; tomorrow she would see the doctor.
What a beautiful story….. If only everything could be healed so simply….. If only you could get to see a doctor 💜
