Love

Open at a page of her choosing, she wondered what she would find in the book of her life. Heaven? She flipped through the chapters at the happiest times. She smiled as each memory help her heart thrive.

Her dad, mum, best friend, waving like they were in a Harry Potter picture. A portrait, where the links to her past felt real. She stared at the empty pages, ready to be written. Leaving her children behind her only regret.

There were so many memories flooding her mind with happy thoughts. All that stayed was the understanding that she would protect them. As her parents’ footprints lingered by her side during the most challenging moments, she was lifted by their love.

A library of paper and invisible ink, some with hardly any words, some full of facts. The writing on hers stopped when her heartbeat moved to another layer of hope. She crossed the threshold between mortality and stood beside them.

‘Love you all,’ she said.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
