Who Are We?

Who are we to judge when we see a homeless person on the street? We cannot understand what they have been through and why they are there. Some make a conscious choice, for some they are escaping what could be dangerous for them.

I am reluctant to donate money to a stranger, because I can never be sure if my cash would buy drugs. My daughter told me that providing food is a much better option. So, that’s what I do. Most sit outside shops, and hunger is their main reason.

What I have noticed is that there aren’t many wandering around these days.

Are they being moved on?

I remember in Windsor, during the Queen’s Jubilee, someone offered them shelter, not because they cared for those less fortunate. With the television cameras firmly entrenched in their surroundings, they didn’t want that side filmed.

  2. We used to see one homeless guy regularly outside one of the popular takeaway food outlets and would offer him a coffee on a cold day. One day we offered him something to eat, and he asked for an item that was one of the more expensive and a hot chocolate. We obliged, and did so often when the weather was bad and he was there. Imagine our stunned surprise when one day we saw him fish out one of the latest smartphones from a tatty pocket and a thick wad of twenty pound notes when we were waiting to cross the road. We’ve only seen him once since then.
    The number of homeless on the streets has disappeared since the town was flooded with illegal immigrants being housed in the top hotels.

  3. We have lots of homeless, a chat, a sandwich or coffee or all three are the best. They seem to disappear in the worse weather hopefully to shelters or squat.

    As to Royal occasions…like weddings and funerals they are always removed!
