Limitations

1. If reincarnation exists, would you like to come back as a domestic pet or a wild animal? I would prefer being a wild animal because there are limitations to being owned by a human. Some are lucky, and treated as if they are another member of the family. All my pets are like family to me, and when any of them passed, it tore out a piece of my heart. Some people regard them as if they aren’t worth anything and that is wrong. Please avoid owning a living being, if you don’t plan to look after them.
2. Do you think Zoos are a good idea? It depends on the zoo. I’ve been to the one in London, and felt there wasn’t enough space for the them to be comfortable. Their enclosures looked too small. However, I have observed some, where they treat them with more respect and their habitat is more in line with their home.
3. Have you ever been to a safari park? Once, at Longleat. We drove through the monkey section and lost all of our plastic seals at the top of the car. We laughed at the other driver’s pain when they ripped off wing mirrors and windscreen wipers.
4. Have you visited an oceanarium? In the UK, we call them aquariums. Yes, I have, and it is a special sort of trip, to encounter different species in a semi-natural environment.

I am grateful for every moment spent with my kids, helping them discover other creatures around us. Zoos might not be perfect, but for some, that’s their only chance of survival. At least with the money we spend on these places, we will help support those, who are becoming extinct because of the vanity of man.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. I agree with you on the pets vs wild.

I loathe zoos except the type like we have in Montreal – it’s more of an ecomuseum than a zoo. All the animals were rescued and rehabilitated following an accident or whatever. They would not survive in the wild so they are given a beautiful home to live in. All the animals are from the St. Lawrence valley so they all belong. It’s a great opportunity for teaching about the animals that surround us.

It’s been forever since I went to a safari park. If I had an old beat up car I might go back 😉

Again, aquariums are on the no-list for me. Let those animals free (unless, they are part of my eco museum 😉 )

    Interesting post, Diana.

  2. Lovely post Diana. I remember going through Longleat and the car being attacked by baboons who stripped the windscreen wipers and ball bearings! Glad I was on the inside of the car! Thanks for joining in.
