Odd

My right reason for being bright deserted me in a warm bath of swirling bubbles. I reached my left toe into the mist, but our plan to remain united failed as we twisted in a hurricane of tears. As the world went upright, I folded into oblivion.

The lost sock bag, and many friends commiserated with me on my loss. Not the best. We danced in happy union sometimes. A few steps, and back in the basket. Did I search for my love? Every day, yet it wasn’t to be.

Funny how things happen.

This old lady, with silver in her hair, worked to join a lonely winter of wool. I observed you as she whistled a merry tune.

‘I’m over here!’ I yelled.

Yellow, with yellow, and red with red. As each pair hugged, I hoped she would recognise our delicate pattern of Christmas trees. Pointing her in your direction, I shuffled nearer to the scramble of feet. She lifted me onto the magical side and dug deep into the pack of pairs.

Together at last, a pair for life, well at least until next Christmas.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. We’re still on our Christmas break and haven’t published a challenge since our Ghost challenge on the 14th of December. I logged on today to check that there were no late entries for ‘Ghost’, and I was surprised to find three responses to the Socks Challenge published in August 2023! Now, I’m intrigued as to how you all found it!

      1. Haha, that explains it. Looking again, I think Sadje might have re blogged an old response and that maybe started the chain linking back to the original! 😂
