Sunny Days

Written for https://lifeafter50forwomen.com/category/what-do-you-see/

Sandcastles, each grain as strong as tin

flags waving to a whispering wind,

resting on striped deckchairs; Dad with his book,

Mum, sunbathing; giving that boredom look.

stealthy sun sneaking behind clouds of smoke,

home made sandwiches; a can of warm coke,

screaming seagulls stealing our chips,

slithers of salt and vinegar cover my lips,

running into wilful waves, filling my castle moat,

not going too deep, don’t know how to float,

playing prize bingo; tokens to win,

we are hoping for a brilliant win,

milkshake, burger and a slice of cake,

nothing about my day is fake.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
