Safe

‘You look a little green. You sure about this?’

Laura glanced into the abyss. Whisps of breeze hovered in the sky like bouncy castles. The woman sat behind her, responsible for her safety. What if the cord was broken? Her children were against her attempting this. She tripped up the stairs,

A sploshed mess of body parts.

‘It’s no shame to back out.’

‘No, want to do this.’

She gulped down the thick bile in her throat; closed her eyes, and thought of her hero. Since she was a girl, she wanted to experience gliding in his shoes. Her hero. Brave enough to leap when he wasn’t certain he would survive.

One step, and the doubt disappeared.

Bravery washed against her red cheeks, all her fears overwhelmed into submission. As the parachute opened, each white fibre shone against the wishes of the sun. Nothing could beat the feeling of flying with angel wings to guide her safely to earth.

‘I did it, Pops,’ she said.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
