Love Her

What is this tic-tacky thing, anyway? Mum wants me to pose in colourful petals. She drags these rose goggles on me. Snap, the light flashes into my eyes. Good job, I love her! Other kids get kibble. Me? The best chicken served on a layer of rice, with a special meaty sauce.

It’s a long day, posing for her pimped up pictures.

She scrolls through her mobile, typing with her pink fingernails and fancy hair extensions. Only once it goes black, her bedcovers crumple. I jump on her bed, snuggle into her shoulders, and she strokes my fur.

Although my human might be terrified, I will always be there for her, sharing the tenderness.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
