Working Life

  1. Have you ever been to an auction? Once, when I was little. I went with my dad, and he brought some ornaments.
  2. Were you ever in a school play or concert? I played recorder and stood at the back, pretending. I was in the school choir (I am tone deaf) and sang to the pensioners. In a play, my role was the main character’s mother. I forgot my line. I was also a Can-Can dancer.
  3.  In your working life, were you ever rewarded financially for your services, apart from your salary? No, although I was lucky enough for my virtual reality play to have a financial commission. Being paid for my writing made me feel good.
  4.  How are you feeling today?Tired, but I want to finish my writing, and do some revision for my Numeracy exam in six weeks. I spent some time with my daughter, helping her tidy the house. I understand what it is like to have a small child, and a job.

I am grateful for my family; we might not spend every day together, but I know they are there when I need them, and I will do the same; especially for my children.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. Hi Diana, it is nice to learn more about you. I was thinking this morning that the emancipation of women seems to have resulted in women having to do two jobs – a full time work job and run the home. Sometimes I wonder why it is always women who get shafted in this life. I know some men help out in the home, but very few I know.
