Best Friends

Written for https://lifeafter50forwomen.com/category/what-do-you-see/

I met my bestie when I was twelve; going to the fair, sitting making daisy chains, or chatting about life, I found someone who understood me and never judged. When she was fifteen, her dad moved to America for his job as a pilot. Even with a whole ocean between us, our friendship stayed strong.

We both married, had children and grandchildren.

This picture reminds me of her. She has the largest smile and beautiful heart. She gave me the confidence to be myself, when I couldn’t see past the shyness.

We have never lost contact.

When we were younger we sent airmail letters, now we have WhatsApp. It is amazing that I can leave a message and the reply can almost be instant. Although we have to think about the different time zones.

She is six hours ahead of me.

I hope to see her in the next couple of years; I bet there will be lots of happy tears.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. How lucky are you dear friend to find someone who really is a wonderful friend and understands you, as you do her. I enjoyed your lovely take. Thanks for joining in.
