I run across the stone bridge, which leads to my home. There are so many pleasant memories of growing up. Fishing for tadpoles, paddling in the water, Dad holding my small palm so I didn’t fall.

He is waiting in one of those granite houses;

As I step onto the cobbled streets, my legs shrink, and we are window shopping in the witchy shops. Dreamcatchers, cookbooks, and sweets you could purchase in quarter ounces.

I guide my daughter into the Sheila’s Giftshop, observing the grin stretch over her face.

‘Mummy, can I buy some fudge for nanny?’

‘Course, love, but not too much.’

Wrapped in brown paper, my daughter clutches her bag, along with a packet of cola bottles.

I am glad to be free; my divorce more easy to deal with.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
