Women’s Rights

I agree with women’s empowerment.

We cannot go back to a time when the police did nothing about domestic violence, or accused women and girls of dressing in the wrong way when men took it upon themselves to attack them or women going to back street abortionists because they could go to prison.

In some ways, the world is going backwards; how can it be illegal, when there are many reasons a woman takes that course of action? It isn’t something I would do, but that doesn’t mean others don’t have a valid reason; poverty, unable to support, or just being too young.

You could say the same about women working.

After my children reached one year, I returned to work. Partly to do with financial reasons. However, preferred helping out financially. It proved challenging when I had to work in the evenings, however, my husband was present at the house, and this assisted them in connecting with him. When I started working at a school, I could spend the holidays and after school with them, so I didn’t miss out.

If a mum wants to stay home full time, that is her choice too.

Should women be in positions of power? Yes, of course they should. At least now, we have the same opportunities in school. I recall being unable to study chemistry, and the sole available job prospects involved working in an office, store, or childcare setting.

Does it go the opposite way? Of course it does. We definitely need more male teachers, especially for boys, who need positive role models. Also, if they wanted to stay home and look after their children, they should.

We are all different, and that’s the way it should be.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
