‘Help is always available when you ask for it.’

James thought about his therapist’s advice in their weekly appointments. He wanted to talk with his grandmother; she was the only person who could understand the uncertainty of being honest when a partner caused physical or mental torture.

‘You’re the first person I have spoken to; I feel ashamed and I should be able to deal with the violence without hurting my wife. I’m afraid she will hurt our children. That’s why I stay because I don’t want them to lose their safety.’
