As a composition of a timeline of earth, humans have only been here for a few seconds of time. Compared to other creatures. Why is it that we have caused the most damage?
Take the latest run on the petrol stations.
We are told that there isn’t enough drivers to take the petrol to garages. What is our response? Rushing to the pumps to over fill their cars. I have heard that some people are even trying to fill shopping bags.
I am sure there are people who could walk to work instead of driving the car – better for the planet. Not only that, but there are vehicles that genuinely need the diesel or petrol. Ambulances, fire engines, first response vehicles. They go to the petrol stations only to find it has run out.
I’m not saying I’m perfect, but I hope that I have some understanding of other people’s struggles. A couple of years ago, when people emptied the shelves of food because of lockdown, it left little for the pensioners, and families living on the breadline. It was made worse when those that did panic buy had to throw away a lot of what they brought because it had gone off (vegetables, fruit).
I hate selfishness and there is enough resources to go round if we are not greedy. Nobody is entitled to expect more than the next person. Let’s make the next second of our time on earth worth something.
So much has been done – solar power, wind power and electric cars. I’m sure in the next ten years we can help reverse the damage.
You’re so right Diana. It is time when people started to think of us as a community instead of us as them only.
