A New Start

Silver sandals at Christmas, the weather outside was colder than frightful, but inside her front room it was thirty degrees. Everyone else celebrated the season, but she skipped Christmas every year.

The brochure in front of her was on the same page for ten minutes. Her hot chocolate long gone, she still couldn’t decide on Barbados or a cruise. For the first time in years money wasn’t an issue, but there was nobody to go with.

Not that she needed a husband, but a friend would have been nice. Someone to share the joy. Eventually the shock of him leaving would disappear, but being in this house, as a reminder of what went wrong.

She circled Barbados, and this time tomorrow his money would pay for the holiday of a lifetime.
