Written for Saturday Stream of Consciousness.
I remember baking with my mum, and making cakes and biscuits. The icing on the cake was being able to clean the bowl with a spoon. Now we know to be careful with raw egg, but then it wasn’t known as a health risk. More so because if the eggs are out of date, but probably not advisable.
The trouble is, it tastes so good.
Even when my children were young, it was a treat to be able to get a spoon and eat the remainder of the raw mixture. I wouldn’t let my granddaughter do it now because I am aware of the dangers.
Cake tastes nice, when its cooked, so it is better to wait until everything is ready.
Thanks for this awareness

I don’t know either, but it was a different time, but I grew up in the seventies where a lot of the things we did wouldn’t be done now.

It suggests to me that our current trends (and taboos) are being created by limp neurotic perfectionists. ๐
