Shoulders

Our shoulders together, we fight for freedom. We didn’t think war would happen, but now the smoke is twisting and turning in a dance of atonement. Billowing from buildings. Sorrow, that our bravery will show nothing but fear.

Soldiers in our streets, both theirs and ours. Our shoulders touch, but we are not the same. War has divided us now. Artillery shells crash into the dirt, and children squat behind their parents.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
