And All That Jazz

‘Life is way too complicated at the moment, and all that jazz,’ Stephanie said, trying to fill in her tax return.

She surfed from one form to another and nothing was helping. If she called the tax office, there would be a queue of other people. Had she missed the deadline? There was nothing to do but make that call and hope it would be answered quickly.

A coffee, with three sugars, and she dialled the number; twenty minutes later and finally the call was answered.

‘So, you work a year behind,’ she said, ending the call. ‘I don’t have to do anything until April, well that’s brilliant.’

An unexpected result, and she opened her app for a bank account. She might just have enough money to treat herself to a coffee and maybe a cake.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
