‘You need to take a break. You are not a machine,’ Mike said.

Keeping busy was the only thing keeping things going, and taking a break was the thing that scared Stella the most. Trying to stay focussed on life, because life scared her.

‘If you’re not going to take a break, how about you do something for you once in a while. Go to a movie, watch a show, or just go swimming.’

Her husband was making sense, it had been a difficult year, but she wasn’t making it any easier to cope with. She burst into tears, not really knowing why. All she knew was she had to look after herself better.

If she didn’t how could she help others do the same.

‘We could take a holiday, just us for a few weeks. I’ve got some holiday due,’ he smiled, allowing the fear to slide away.

it was stupid to be afraid of fear itself. The mind could be like a python, squeezing until little worries stopped you in their tracks. Today was the first in many. Life would be good. It might take baby steps, but the journey could be done with support.

She only had to ask.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
