It’s too, too Hot.

https://fivedotoh.com/author/fivedotoh/ has given us BASICALLY as his word prompt today.

So, Basically, in true Brit style, I am going to talk about the weather.

Today, in the UK, we have been issued with severe weather warnings of the hot kind. In the next two days, we are going to be struck with temperatures of over forty degrees. Now, to some, that might not be a lot, but this is England.

Our weather consists of freezing rain (snow) cold rain, and warm rain in the summer. We are not used to sunny, hot temperatures. We wilt in these temperatures, but also we don’t see them very often, so swimming pools, shorts and sun cream it is . Then we pay for it later with sunburn, and dehydration.

We have been advised not to make any unnecessary journeys, and to stay indoors when possible. Us oldies have been given weather warnings, well I say oldies, anyone over sixty.

I’m sitting here typing, at nearly eleven, and I am struggling to keep focussed because it is too damn hot. Today is going to be a day of ice, lollies, and constantly drinking. I will put our new, fancy fan on, and try moving as little as possible.

The trouble is, with this extreme weather, we are all getting just a little grumpy. I went to sleep last night, but struggled. In the end I took the other fan upstairs with me, and turned it on full blast.

Only then could I go to sleep.

I hate hot, humid nights. I would take my bed outside, but am not a big fan of rats.

Basically, that is it, but if you own a dog, especially a puppy, don’t take them out for a walk. It is too hot for them. Suffice to say, my dog won’t be going out in this heat. If you can’t put your bare foot on the ground, and walk around in a fur coat, then don’t expect your dog to. It is better to go early in the morning or late at night.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. So true about the dogs. Maya has ice cubes in her water, has been hosed down, face washed, splashed , walked at 6am and won’t get her next one until about 10pm. Too hot for us, so definitely too hot for our furry babe.
