Feeding The Birds

I grew up near Windsor, and many a happy weekend was spent walking by The Thames and feeding the ducks, geese, and swans. Not the seagulls, they were mostly by the sea, although they have come more inland in the last few years.

I took my children swimming, when they were younger, and they would go to a little fair near the river. It was a nice way of spending a summer afternoon. Sometimes we walked our old dog, Scamp. He was okay off lead, and loved the freedom the park gave him.

Now my daughter is taking my granddaughter to feed the ducks, although we are not really allowed to feed them bread any more. Most places sell seed, which is much better for the ducks and the water. She shows now fear, and loves being around them, even with the geese.

This picture reminds me of those special days, and memories of spending time with my children when they were small. Even remembering times when my son nearly joined the ducks, or my daughter’s friend dog, who did a double take, when he got to near the water and fell in the river. Or my granddaughter being so close to a goose, she didn’t blink twice.

Happy memories.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
