‘Well, for a fire alarm, there isn’t much urgency is there – I mean fire, fire, there is a fire, in a calm tone doesn’t actually make me want to wake up.’ Terry said.
‘True, but at least I know when the toast is burnt,’ Melanie said, taking out the charred remains of her bread, and putting them in the bin. ‘It’s just how my day has gone today. I wanted to make porridge, but my microwave was giving me a light show.’
With a sigh, she pulled out a couple more slices of bread, and put them in the toaster. She just needed to calm down a little – take a breath. Sometimes, when there were mornings like this, a step back was needed for a fresh start.
‘I did read though, that when something is said calmly, then the fire alarm is more effective. I tell you what, shall I ditch the toast, and we can go out for a meal instead. I haven’t had my breakfast, or coffee for that matter.’
‘My treat, and on the way home you could buy a new microwave.’
