High Five Grannie

‘High Five Grannie,’ Lily said, running to greet her grandmother.

It had been something they did, since she was little.

Every time she passed a test, every time she won a race, or even just because they met.

‘High Five,’ Grannie said, giving one of her smiles.

She wasn’t your typical grandmother, for one, she was always writing her stories. Only last year, at the age of seventy, she got herself a publisher. It was always something she was proud to tell her friends.

‘I wrote a story Grannie, for a competition at school.’

‘Wow that’s great love, what was the story about?’

‘About a dog and a cat, going on adventures. I won ten pounds and some vouchers for Amazon.’

‘How about me, you and Gramps go on an outing then, to celebrate. We could go to your favourite restaurant. We haven’t had a day out in ages.’

‘Yea, that would be brilliant, I could treat you and Gramps.’

‘No darling, keep your money, our treat.’

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
