Beth’s Books

Today’s word prompt from https://emkingston.wordpress.com/2023/01/01/e-m-s-weekly-word-january-1-2023/ is empower.

‘You can do this!’ Laura’s mum said.

It was the first of January, and the idea of owning the little book shop was just an idea, but since her mum had been so positive in her life, she wanted to do the same. She went inside, empowered with a love so strong, she could achieve anything.

Love, a positive emotion, which could fight any self doubt, a strong sense of being who you are. Her mum had taught her that. Family, with a little hint of hope, and she could be part of someone’s happiness. A dream to live big, and not be scared any more.

‘Can I help you dear?’ Betty said.

‘What you were saying, the other day. If I made you an offer, would take it?’

‘What is the offer?’

‘I’ve only got five thousand, but I know it isn’t nearly enough.’

‘I’ll take it, money isn’t the issue. You will keep them safe, all those books, words with a wonderful meaning. Bring life into the old place. With five thousand I can go and see my son in Australia.’

‘Are you sure?’

‘Yes, you love this place, just as much as me, and I couldn’t think of anyone else I would want to sell it to.’

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
