‘Happy New Year! So what is your new years resolution then?’

‘Well, I thought I could give up drinking, but I will need to finish this bottle first.’

‘You could go on a diet.’

Her husband was being cheeky, if anyone needed to lose weight. ‘I will if you will.’

‘We got all the chocolates left over, we need to eat those. Maybe we could start the diet in a week or so, when that’s all gone. Plus, we have all the food in the fridge, it would waste food if we didn’t eat that.’

‘True, I mean, if we are going to do that, we need to get things in. What with the cost of living going up, vegetables are expensive, not to mention all that fruit. Besides, we could do with a bit of relaxation.’ He held his stomach, as it gurgled out.

‘Although, I’ve this Slimming world pamphlet, next week, we could go there, see if that helps. The doctor did say we needed to cut down, and I can’t find clothes to fit me. What do you reckon? Give it a go?’

‘Could do, maybe lose a few pounds that way. Although, I’m not going on my own.’

‘I’ll go with you, maybe this time next year we’ll be a couple of stone lighter.’

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
