Be Patient

This week’s inspiration is from https://lifeafter50forwomen.com/author/sadje19/

I received your note, Love is patient, not proud or self-seeking.

It is my record to myself, when I’m on my own, thinking I cannot do this alone. Today, the first day of my life where I was patient with myself. Training together, we walked the streets of St Ives. Sometimes, she made a mistake – sometimes it was me, but we were learning together.

‘Take your time Sarah, you are both doing so well. Remember be calm with your instructions, make them clear. You are tense on the lead, and then so is she.’

I let the lead loosen in my grip, walking on, finding a confidence I always had. One two three, Merlin stops, instantly I feel the lead tense, but not from my inaction. This means she is by a road, understands she needs to sit.

‘That’s better, see Merlin understands, so do you for that matter.’

‘How long before we are ready?’ I ask.

‘Not long, a few weeks – Sarah, you are going to be perfect together.’

The lead slackens, and I cross the road, listening to the silence. As soon as we reach the other side, she sits again. I’m in the dark, all the time now. No glasses can give me my sight back. Merlin, she gives me my life back. In the evening, there is a safety in our numbers.

She sits on the floor next to me, her head in my feet. It is the first time, since Graham, I truly believe I can do this. Love is about being patient, never a truer word been said.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
