New Shoot

This week from https://christinebialczak.com/2023/04/18/simply-6-minutes-welcome-to-the-challenge-04-18-2023/

A tiny shoot of hope, growing where an old key used to open the cell.

Now, zoos were banned, plants were pushing through the rust, growing into something beautiful. He hardly wanted to touch the ancient lock. Why would he want to destroy life?

Yet, he couldn’t let the jail remain.

Gently, cutting through the lock, he removed it from its frame. Perhaps, he could lay it down, in the forgotten earth, like a plant pot. Perhaps there was a hope of survival for all earth’s species. The war, still raging in parts, yet here, forgotten.

Taking water from his own bottle, he poured it on the plant, hoping it would encourage other life forms. War, no. It was time for a greater peace of mind.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
