Jury

‘I would like to represent my case to the court. The attention on this woman, who murdered her husband. Ladies, and Gentlemen of the jury. This lady, took her time to have her hair done. It was her anniversary after all. What did he do when he got home? Turned on the television, to watch the football. Not a word about her new haircut.’

Tracy sat in the dock, her hands locked together in prayer. She didn’t mean to kill him, but when he barely looked her in the eye, and asked where his dinner was. She just lost her temper that’s all. It wasn’t her fault the ornament was nearby. Her aim, brilliant. His head, just got in the way.

Did she wait an hour to call an ambulance? Maybe, but then he refused to help her pick up the sharp shards of pottery. He was always forgetting her birthday, and the anniversary was the last straw.

‘Or her new dress, he just expected her to cook, and clean. It shouldn’t be a life sentence. That was her marriage. She has already served her sentence. Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you will bring in the verdict of not guilty.’

Waking up, she stretched her arms, and her husband was snoring beside her. She loved him really.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
