Dad

I recollect

in my happiest dreams

the crosswords you used to complete,

a calm tone when I didn’t behave at school

the extra strong mints on your favourite chair

and my searching questions, which caused a tear

to fall. You allowed me to talk when I needed a friend

always with my best interests in your heart

I weep, as I remember

you in hospital, this cruel disease stealing precious life,

our last hour together, spent consoling me

letting me know it would all be okay

always with my best interests

at heart

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
