She stared at her reflection in the mirror, and wondered what face she would show to the world. It had been a long few months of worry. Today was the first day she had gone out since his accident. Her stomach lurched forward. Why was it the face she wanted to show wasn’t how she was truly feeling.
A pasted on smile, a cheery wave, but her heart felt like it had shattered into tiny shards of glass. What did it matter the face she chose, her feelings would still be the same. He would still be in an urn of ashes beside her bed.
She couldn’t let his final wishes down. Today, for the sake of his parents, she picked the face with the brightest smile. They would journey to the beach, and scatter his ashes into the ocean he loved so much.
With a determined head, she stared at her reflection once more.
‘I’m ready,’ she said, getting up.
