Writer’s Block

This quote prompt from https://saltedcaramel670.wordpress.com/2022/06/20/blogging-insights-new-format/ got me thinking about when I write.

When I am writing for my blog, I allow myself to write, and not really think about what I am writing. Not in the sense of it making sense, but not over worrying that it doesn’t work. Flash fiction is something you can write without worrying if it links to the larger piece you are writing.

Sometimes I want my editing brain to shut up and let the words flow. It is something I need to do when writing my novel. Especially since I am writing it from scratch because I’ve changed the whole theme now.

It is different when I am writing by hand, I don’t care about the mistakes then. They can be sorted when I type on the computer. When I am writing on the computer, the urge to edit as I go is too much to handle. Also it is easier to delete the sentence you have written, but in hand written stories, you just let the pen do the talking.

Today I’m finding writing better, but there are days when I type something and rewrite it so many times I cannot remember the first idea.

Oh well, back to the writing pad.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. Writing is very individual. Probably even if I took formal writing classes, I could not discard that inner sense of writing.
I think writing down your process is important. I added a short description of what i did in a post a few days ago. You are right ….. the finished piece hardly ever resembles the first idea.
