Freedom

The Carrot Ranch have given us the word prompt ”Freedom”.

‘I don’t want to fight for freedom, it’s not a German soldier’s fault their leader is a dictator. They do not have freedom to speak out against their government.’

‘What about the freedom of your family and friends? Do they not matter,’ he said, placing a white feather in his brother’s hand.

James held the white feather, a sign Robert thought him a weak link, but he was no coward. It wasn’t as if he was afraid, more like he didn’t want to take a life. He clutched his fragile fist tight, the soft tufts breaking his heart.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. War gives soldiers no choices. I can’t imagine fighting in a war. I guess if I was somewhere where someone was attacking me and my family and lifestyle, and I had no choice ie Ukraine, I would defend myself or run. In my case, I imagine that I would run. This is a very thoughtful piece.
