Change of Heart

Today from E’M’s word prompt, https://emkingston.wordpress.com/category/random-word-challenge/ is Clemency.

‘To show clemency is too kind, those poor animals,’ Stella said.

It seemed a good idea at the time, and those pictures were etched into her memory, to kidnap the doctor responsible for their pain. Now she was sitting here, begging to be reunited with her husband.

They were going to have a child.

Maisy unlocked the handcuffs, and turned to face Stella. She didn’t understand, that much was clear, but she didn’t have any choice in the matter. This was the right thing to do.

‘I’ll just make this clear, I’m only letting you go because it is the right thing to do, but medical testing on animals is not. There are other ways. Do you want your child to grow up in a world where we are more important than humans.’

Leaving the warehouse, the doctor almost stumbles out of the grounds. Maisy leaves in the other direction, getting into her car. Stella stares out of the window, unsure of her friend’s motives.

‘It was you who thought this a good idea,’ she said.

‘I just thought, it would make me as bad as her. We are pro-life, and to take hers would go against my belief. I didn’t want to take a life, and her baby is not to blame for her actions. Hopefully she will change, this might make her think.’

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
