Weathered

Monday’s prompt E.M.’s RWP ~ #245 weathered from https://emkingston.wordpress.com/author/emkingston/ and the inspiration for this narrative.

‘I’m going for that weathered look,’ Simon said, looking at the walls in his bedroom.

Wallpaper, stripped off the wall, was patchy in a few places. The colour beneath, a dark sort of blue. There was a few places, where the original paint remained. It looked weathered, but not in a good way.

‘I think we should go for this look,’ Sonia said, her hands firmly on the bundle she was carrying. ‘Yellow duck wallpaper, to go with the light blue carpet. I’m not having any child of mine in a room with dark walls.’

‘She won’t know the difference.’

‘But I will, so what’s it going to be, weathered, or baby worthy, it is up to you.’

Picking up his brush, Simon unravelled the wallpaper.

‘Good choice,’ Sonia said, kissing her husband.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
