Running in the Rain

This is written for https://fivedotoh.com/2022/08/22/fandangos-flash-fiction-challenge-181-2/. We are always busy running through the rain, but it is easier with a friend.

Every day, we walk in the rain, not understanding that there are many others trudging to a weathered tune. We don’t see other people, just focus on our own troubles as the rain pelts on to our umbrellas.

Today, he watched his fellow man make the same mistakes. He could offer advice on how to mend his battered umbrella, to make his life easier. Yet, could not do the same for his own safety net.

‘You could patch up your umbrella with a little bit of glue, and some cloth. That way, the rain won’t affect you. If you wanted we could share an umbrella.’

‘I’ve been noticing too, that we could go quicker when we are together than alone. Also, we could chat along the way. Everything is easier with a friend to talk to.’

So, instead of running through the rain, they discussed what they could do to make it easier, and one day, the sun, brought an unexpected boost. Their umbrellas were ready, but the rain felt lighter than normal.

In a crazy world, they found each other.
