Sunday confessionals and https://mindlovemiserysmenagerie.wordpress.com/2022/10/30/sunday-confessionals-encounters/ a picture prompt.
It used to be where people went for entertainment.
Before television, radio, or even books: where most people couldn’t read, there used to be public hangings. Old women would bring their knitting. Men, from all walks of life, would try and find a front row seat.
Especially when it was someone famous like a queen.
They would watch it, like watching a horror movie – like they could find a clue to those, who were innocent, and the guilty. Truth was, they didn’t care, just wanted something different to their lives. Filled with sixteen-hour days, working, starving. Life expectancy was low – if you were thirty, then you were considered old.
People used to sell food, like you would in a cinema.
It would be hard to believe now, but it did happen.
Those were quite different times, indeed. A very thought-provoking piece.
