Unlocking Minds

Break times, in the factory, could be torture for some and a time to read for others. Locked minds felt bored. There was nothing they could do but ponder on what had gone wrong in their shift.

Bob, scrunching his eyes, thought about what he would do if he won the lottery. Last week he spent his wages trying to win that fortune, now he had no choice but to work.

Paul, leaning on his knees, couldn’t get over the argument with his production manager. All he did was moan about him being late on shift, or not being quick enough. He was sick of this treatment, but where else could he work. This was his seventh job in as many months.

Jack, reading his book, didn’t love his work, but it paid the bills. He was able to feed his family, give help to those who needed it, and in many ways he was content. Reading, a chance to escape, but learn too. One day, he would find a way to push himself forward on the managerial ladder. Or, maybe, be his own boss.

He always wanted to make his own web comic, and one day he would find success. Working hard wasn’t a problem, he could do that. Dreaming big, well, he could do that too. He didn’t want to be stationary, but always moving towards his goal of being an independent adult.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
