Hurricane Lily

November 21, 2022, prompt from Carrot Ranch: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story using the phrase, “Oh, my.” It can be used in storytelling or dialog. What is the cause for such a response? Have fun with this one! Go where the prompt leads!

‘Oh my, what on earth has happened here,’ Dana said, walking into the front room.

It looked like a hurricane had swept through her once clean setting.

‘Hurrican Lily happened,’ her husband said. ‘Sorry about the mess.’ 37

Dana wondered whether he was actually looking after their granddaughter, or just making sure she didn’t get bored. Barbie had a foot missing, where she threw it to the dog and Ken now only had one leg.

It was a good job they had the wheelchair from the jumble sale, at least they could get around.

‘She finds it funny,’ her husband said.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
