Secret Ingredient

‘It certainly packs a punch,’ Bobby said, taking another sip of the cocktail.

He wasn’t sure what spirit the barman used, but one glass, and you were always nearly on the floor. Perhaps he used them all. Today, he made sure he had a pint of milk before he drank it. It was helpful to line your stomach when going into this pub.

‘I wouldn’t drink it all in one go, this is a chill out drink, something you can only take your time with. It was part of my money saving projects for those who cannot afford to buy a round. You get your mate to buy the first round, then you don’t have to drink any more.’

‘What’s in it?’

‘That would be giving away my secrets, but it won’t do you any harm.’

What he didn’t want to say, was the alcohol content was zero. It was only a mixture of fruit juices, with a sparing amount of chillies. The secret ingredient was written on a napkin, in his safe.

The code, shaken not stirred, he would pass to his colleague, but only when he retired.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
